Gapminder Screencast and Analysis
Variable Set #1
Variable Set #2
Part 1:Definitions and Explanations
a. The Life Expectancy is measured by the average number of years that a person will live to be.
The Income per person is an average of how much money one person takes in. The children per women is an average per country of how many children a woman will have.
b. Economic Development is tied to these words by a higher life expectancy means a better economy in the medical sector. The income per person is showing how wealthy a country is. The children per women shows that if a woman has less children they have more time and money to spend on other things and can economically change the country for the better.
Part 2: Chart Analysis
a. Most Asian, American, and European countries have a higher life expectancy and have a higher income per person. Most of Africa have a lower life expectancy and a lower income per person. This shows that the African countries are Lower Developed Countries and Asian, American, and European countries are More Developed Countries.
b. The reasoning behind the African countries being LDC's and the Asian, American, and European countries being MDC's is the amount of economic development they have gone through and the amount of money and crops they are producing.

Crossing The Line Arc GIS Activity

The country that I chose for splitting was Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The countries that I chose for merging were Azerbaijan and Iran.
The reason for DRC to split is because of language differences. The blue on the map is the provinces and the lines are where the main languages are and where they want to split.(Like the picture below) The reason for Iran and Azerbaijan merging is because they have the potential to break down otherwise.
I based the map on cultural features of languages. The languages were Swahili, Kikongo, Tshiluba, and Lingala.
This would impact DRC by making these provinces different and having to change all of the borders and boundaries. Each country would have to come up with their own military. This would impact Iran and Azerbaijan by giving it more land to try and protect and giving it more water space for trade.

Census Data Mapper Map & Analysis- October 2013
LINK to this map on Google Drive.
The topic on my Census Data Map is Percent of Females in the United States. A large cluster of females live in Alabama and Mississippi. I noticed that in the west there aren't a lot of females, this also includes Alaska. Iowa seems to have an average amount of females. Washington County, Minnesota has 50.5% females, which is just a little over half the population in that county.
Some of the reasons for these clusters could be because of the jobs, such as Alaska, there aren't a lot of women who want to work as a gold miner. In Alabama and Mississippi there is a lot of beautiful scenery and women tend to care about the things around then more often than men. Towards the Southeast, there are a lot of clusters of high percentages of women. The warm weather can contribute to this. There are so many factors to why people live where they live, it could be because of farming, climates, wanting to live in the cities or the country, culture, and the amount of money people have. The list could go on forever.
When having uneven numbers of women compared to men, it could be a problem such as when there are more females, there would be single women, and vice versa for men. When having an even amount of females and men, population could grow fast. The disadvantages of this is we wouldn't have enough resources eventually, and we would have to figure out a way to get more. Overall population of a state makes more electoral votes, which is definitely an advantage.
