Census Data Mapper Map & Analysis- October 2013
LINK to this map on Google Drive.
The topic on my Census Data Map is Percent of Females in the United States. A large cluster of females live in Alabama and Mississippi. I noticed that in the west there aren't a lot of females, this also includes Alaska. Iowa seems to have an average amount of females. Washington County, Minnesota has 50.5% females, which is just a little over half the population in that county.
Some of the reasons for these clusters could be because of the jobs, such as Alaska, there aren't a lot of women who want to work as a gold miner. In Alabama and Mississippi there is a lot of beautiful scenery and women tend to care about the things around then more often than men. Towards the Southeast, there are a lot of clusters of high percentages of women. The warm weather can contribute to this. There are so many factors to why people live where they live, it could be because of farming, climates, wanting to live in the cities or the country, culture, and the amount of money people have. The list could go on forever.
When having uneven numbers of women compared to men, it could be a problem such as when there are more females, there would be single women, and vice versa for men. When having an even amount of females and men, population could grow fast. The disadvantages of this is we wouldn't have enough resources eventually, and we would have to figure out a way to get more. Overall population of a state makes more electoral votes, which is definitely an advantage.
